What Does It Mean to Be a Leader?
Secretary Al WileyI am very happy
to serve as the secretary for this Retiree Club, it is an
honor and a big responsibility. The following are some of my
thoughts about being a leader for this great group.
You become a problem solver, concerned with the human-scale,
structure and function.
A strong believer in strong personalities,
and strong opinions.
Feeling confident.
Allowing time for thoughtful planning.
Having people depend on you.
A leader chooses people to do certain tasks.
When you are chosen to do a job or task we must do our best
for the group, carry out the job or task that is expected.
Plan your work and work your plan.
Challenge yourself and your work will seem
different. A mistake at least proves somebody stopping
talking long enough to do something constructive.
A leader needs people with intelligence,
composure, discipline and restraint.
Difficulties begin when he or she is able to
do as they like. We cannot do everything at once, but we can
do something at once.
Too many people quit looking for work when
they find a job. Just remember, laziness travels so slowly
that poverty soon overtakes us.
If we fill our hours with regret over the
failures of yesterday, and worries over the problems of
tomorrow, we have no today in which to be thankful.
To know how to grow old is the master work
of wisdom, and one of the most difficult chapters in the
great art of living.
