January 4, 2012 - Since union dues cannot be used for political contributions, your union must raise these funds separately. For this vital task, the UFCW relies on its Active Ballot Club (ABC) membership. Through voluntary membership contributions and fundraisers, the ABC generates money Local 876 can use to support candidates who support workers' issues, regardless of party affiliation.

The face of labor is quickly changing as Republican-contolled legislators and governors are boldly attacking the protections working middle class citizens have fought for through years, if not decades of collective bargaining. Many anti-worker legislative measures and ballot initiatives are presented as budget-saving measures, most result in the reduction of labor costs, including health care, benefits and wages.

With the election cycle upon us, now more than ever, labor must work together to protect recently won gains, including: the passage of health care reform, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and reining in Wall Street to protect middle class families. Current Republican hopefuls have already promised to do away with them right away.

This makes the ABC program even more urgent than ever. Your contributions will support candidates who are fighting big business' attempt to manipulate the middle class through fictitous budget-saving measures.
